Keys and access

Who can create an API key?

Any active Ur Next Door member, on any plan including Free. Open Settings > API keys on the website or in the app.

How many keys can I have?

Up to 5 active keys at a time. Revoked and expired keys do not count toward the limit.

I lost my key. Can I see it again?

No. The key is shown once and only a fingerprint is stored. Revoke the lost key and create a new one.

Why did my keys stop working?

A key stops working when it expires, when you revoke it, when you reset your password (all keys are revoked), or while your account is suspended. Requests then answer 401 with the code invalid_api_key.

Can a key change my password or create other keys?

No. Keys can only use the API endpoints their scopes allow. Your account, password and keys are managed only in Settings, behind your normal sign in.

Cost and limits

Which plans include the API?

Every plan, including Free. Your plan (Free, Pro or Business) sets your daily quotas; the limits page lists the numbers.

Do failed requests use my quota?

No. Only successful (2xx) requests count. A request that fails for any reason gives its unit back.

When do quotas reset?

Every day at 00:00 UTC, which is 05:30 in India.

AI tools

Which AI tools can use the API today?

Claude Code, Codex CLI (after you enable network access), ChatGPT custom GPTs through Actions, and any agent or script that can make HTTP requests.

Can I use it from Claude Desktop or claude.ai?

Not yet. Those apps need an MCP server, and an official Ur Next Door MCP server is on the roadmap. Use Claude Code meanwhile, including in the Code tab of the Claude desktop app.

Is it safe to give an AI agent my key?

It is as safe as the rules you give it. Keep the key in the UND_API_KEY environment variable so it never appears in the conversation, give the agent its own key with narrow scopes and an expiry, and use the agent system prompt, which tells it never to print the key and to confirm before publishing.

Can I share a custom GPT that uses my key?

No. The key in a GPT Action is used for everyone who opens the GPT, so they would all post as you. Keep the GPT set to Only me.

Content

Can I write the body in Markdown?

Not yet. Bodies are HTML. Convert Markdown to HTML before sending it. Markdown bodies are on the roadmap.

Can I edit or delete a post I published through the API?

Not through the API in v1. Edit or delete it on the website or in the app, like any other post. Scheduled items can be rescheduled, published early or cancelled through the API.

Can I post inside a community?

Yes, if you are an editor, admin or creator of that community. Send community_id or the community slug. GET /api/v1/communities/postable lists the communities you can post in.

How do I upload an image an AI generated?

Upload it with POST /api/v1/media as base64 JSON or as a multipart file, then use the returned data.url as featured_image or in gallery. Images can be up to 8 MB in and must be 2 MB or less after conversion to WebP.

Scheduling

How far ahead can I schedule?

From 5 minutes to 180 days ahead. Send scheduled_at in ISO 8601 with Z or an offset; it is stored in UTC.

Where do I see what is scheduled?

On the website at urnextdoor.com/scheduled, or with GET /api/v1/scheduled using a key with the schedule scope.

What is next

What is on the roadmap?

An official MCP server for Claude Desktop and claude.ai, Markdown bodies, importing images from URLs and from ChatGPT, reading, updating and deleting published content, webhooks for scheduled items, and per key limits. There are no dates yet; the changelog announces each one when it ships.

Where do I report a problem?

Email support@urnextdoor.com with the request_id from the error response. Never include your API key.
